8 introductory lessons to the skills required for the Eduqas English Language Component 2A (Reading) exam (19th and 21st century non-fiction texts). These lessons are mostly based on the Eduqas English Language Book 1 text, and are meant to compliment activities and information within the text.

Some lessons and resources that I use to teach Stone Cold.

The lessons here are part of an introductory unit to the new Eduqas GCSE English Language course. Most of the lessons are based on material found within the WJEC Eduqas GCSE Book 1 English Language. They are meant to compliment the text and guidance given by Eduqas.

I can not claim credit for the SOW itself, but the PPTs have all been created by myself to fit into the SOW found here. Videos are obviously not included (Back to the Future 2, The Time Machine, The Sound of Thunder, and an episode of the Simpsons are needed for the unit). Focus of the unit is to introduce students to the genre of sci-fi (specifically time travel). Formal assessment is on how and why Wells desribes the living conditions of the Eloi in The Time Machine (historical context links)

A whole scheme of work of KS3 teaching of a variety of dystopian fiction texts. Some of the larger texts are missing from the resources, for copyright purposes, but are readily available elsewhere. All lessons are aimed at levels 5, 6 and 7 reading skills.

A scheme of work for conflict/war poetry, with reading assessment and creative assessment.

Powerpoint Presentations to aid in teaching Macbeth to GCSE students. Complete lessons introducing themes and analysis of the play. Please feel free to use and adapt. Unfortunately I created them using Windows 7, so the powerpoints may not be accessable to all. If you'd like to see them, do send me a message and I can convert and e-mail.

The first 8 lessons for a unit on Private Peaceful. I found the scheme of work online,adapted it slightly, and created PPTs to accompany the scheme, so I cannot take full credit for each individual lesson. It worked quite well with my high ability grade 7 group, and they really enjoyed our study of the novel. Final assessment for my group was a speaking and listening task, but it could easily be adapted to include a writing assessment, or you could create your own.

The following resources I've adapted or created to create a scheme of work intended to introduce year 8 students to the codes and conventions used in print media, focusing on magazines and newspapers. For lesson 8, I did not save a digitical copy of the two articles used. They are &'How to stop vuvuzelas from taking over the world&'; by Conor McNamara and 'A stern defence of the vuvuzela&' bu Paul Geiss. First set of 17 lessons and resources for a non-fiction SOW looking at the Olympic games. Please see Parts 2 and 3 of same name for rest of SOW. I cannot claim ownership of all the resources, but I did create the PPTs myself, based on other stimulus. Apologies for any spelling/grammar errors - I don't catch them sometimes!

Resources used with whole class reading of the class novel, included a reading and writing (media) assessment. Requires DVD copies of the 1981 BBC Version of the book, as well as the more recent 2009 BBC Version. Class has used the abridge novel, so resources are based on that version.

SOW created using a mish-mash of resources found online. Students build skills in writing using quotes as well as developing their ideas based on those presented in a text. Final assessment asks students to explain how sympathy is built towards a character within an extract.

PowerPoints and ther resources on "Never Let Me Go".

The last bit of resources for a SOW introducing students in KS3 to the life and times, as well as various works of William Shakespeare. The unit itself is meant to allow students to experiment with speaking Shakespearean English, and to build their confidence. No one play is studied in depth, but rather a selection of his works are briefly discussed and key scenes are read through. (Included here are bits I think I left out from Part 1. If anything is missing that is referred to in PPTs, do e-mail me and I can send you what you need)

The following scheme was devised as a media based unit in English, for year 9. The final assessment is a written report, as well as a group speaking and listening assessment. The first part of a creative writing for Year 7 students. Students assess their own writing skills, and then build these skills up. Sentence types, punctuation, grammar, vocabulary and literary devices. Can be adapted to suit ability (I am aiming it here at writing levels 4 - 6). I hope to add the rest of this unit soon; the focus will be on poetry for the latter half of the unit.
